ClimateHouse Wine
The ClimateWine certification covers the ecological, social and economic sustainability of wineries by assessing the entire production process of wine, while measuring the consumption and use of materials and energy. Even though energy consumption is evaluated in its entirety, particular emphasis is placed upon the aging and storage aspects of wine production, as they typically carry the highest energy impact.
Total water consumption is evaluated in relation to soil sealing to encourage a reduction in water consumption and to retain the natural water cycle. The ClimateWine certification also reviews the relationship of building structures and production facilities with those that work within or visit the winery as well as their relationship with the environment. Lastly, the economic feasibility of a project is reviewed, as ecological sustainability must build on a foundation of strong economic feasibility.
