80s
 The South Tyrolean Office of Clear Air develops first systems of support for energy saving measures and puts them into practice.

 
1992
 The Provincial Government and South Tyrolean municipalities become members of the climate alliance (international cooperation between European municipalities and indigenous tribes from the rainforest for the protection of the atmosphere). The Provincial Office of Air and Noise (previously Office of Clean Air) coordinates all activities.

 
1992-2006
 Numerous activities to inform and create awareness take place on climate change and the suistainable use of energy and ressources. The initiatives “Klima verbündet, Klimaschritte, Klimaschule, Prima Klima and KlimaBetrieb” generate much interest in the province.

 
1992-2002
 First development of an “energy passport” or temperature card for buildings (previously climate card) and development of a strategic plan to improve the energy efficacy and sustainability of residential buildings. Based on previous climate activites, the project is named KlimaHaus/CasaClima by initiator Norbert Lantschner, Director of the Office of Air and Noise. The new energy card describes the energy efficacy of a building in easy terms. Buildings with good and very good energy savings receive the energy card and KlimaHaus badge. Other initiatives include teaching and further training to construction planners and professionals as well as information campaigns focused on energy and buildings.
 
February 2002
 First presentation of KlimaHaus at a conference in Bolzano, Italy. Energy saving buildings gain wide acceptance by combining a variety of voluntary measures. Clear rules and communication play a major role in the guidelines. The client is at the center stage. He spends a major part of his lifetime in buildings.
 
April 2002
 The Canadian government houses a presentation of the KlimaHaus project by the  General Consul of the Canadian Embassy in Milan.
 
May 2002
 The Schaefer family from Oberinn (Ritten) receives the first award KlimaHaus A for its town house from Dr. Mich Laimer, head of the Department of Environment and Energy of the Province of Bolzano. The new certified construction method generates media interest.
 
October 2002
 The City of Bolzano incorporates elements of the KlimaHaus into their building regulations. For the first time in Italy, the energy card becomes mandatory, as well as the obligation to observe minimum standards for temperature saving, which is more restrictive than the national law standard (law No. 10/1991). Shortly thereafter, other municipalities follow with applications of KlimaHaus rules.
 
April 2003
 The South Tyrolean Institute for Social Residential Construction “WOBI,” which owns approximately 12,000 apartments in South Tyrol, commits to voluntarily constructing only KlimaHauses in the future. These standards for heating savings also should be applied to all building renovations owned by the institute. Future building renovations will comply with KlimaHaus standards for heating. This sends a clear message to the construction industry and becomes a model.
 
May 2003
 First competition “best KlimaHaus.” The award is presented to the residential building of Albert Willeit of Gais. The Italian newspaper “La Repubblica,” in its weekly  special edition  “Il Venerdi” covers the winning project with the  headline “Benvenuti nella casa piu ecologica d’Italia” (“Welcome to the Most Ecological House in Italy”).
 
June 2004
 The faculty of architecture at the University La Sapienza in Rome invite the KlimaHaus Agency to give a presentation on the KlimaHaus project.
 
December 2004
 On September 29, 2004, the governor of the Province of South Tyrol issues Decree No. 34 that declares KlimaHaus regulations become mandatory in South Tyrol. (bylaw to the law on regional developmental planning in the area of energy saving).
 
October 2005
 The book “KlimaHaus Leben im Plus” is published in German and Italian and becomes an immediate success.
 
November 2005
 Invitation to the 11th World Climate Conference of the United Nations in Montreal, Canada. KlimaHaus is selected out of 21 projects as an example for a concrete and sustainable measurement to protect the climate.
 
January 2006
 The Fair of Bolzano organises the first special KlimaHaus fair. More than 24,000 visitors register for the four-day event. Approximately 1,000 participants take part at the first international conference “Future building.”
 
January 2006
 For the first time, the prize “best KlimaHaus” is awarded in six categories by a panel.
 
February 2006
 Validation and selling of VERs (verified emission reduction) by the climate programme. KlimaHaus is awarded the first CO2-certificates by the TÜV Munich (technical Inspection Agency).
 
April 2006
 The first KlimaHaus master class begins at the Free University of Bolzano. Due to immense interest, criteria for admission is established.
 
May 2006
 Invitation to the international conference of  ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability in Stockholm.

 Foundation of the KlimaHaus agency s.r.l. Partners include: SEL, Pensplan, Südtiroler Landessparkasse and Raiffeisen Landesbank (approx. 60% of the capital is public owned).

 On December 1, the KlimaHaus agency opens at Dante Str. in Bolzano. Main areas of operation include: certification of buildings, energy use, training and education, consultation.
